We moved from Virginia to San Antonio recently and one thing I always do is ask people for pizza recommendations. One that was strongly recommended was Stout Pizza Company. This was easily accomplished considering it is only around 10-15 minutes from my house. So I decided to head over there for my birthday treat. I got there right as it opened on a weekday and the weather was horrible, so it was unsurprisingly dead. They had a lunch deal for a one topper personal pizza and a soda for like 9 bucks. I ordered my usual pepperoni and grabbed a booth. The location was nice, n...(more)
Location: Somewhere on the road from Virginia to San Antonio - sheetz.com
There are no Sheetz locations either where I lived in Virginia or where I just moved to in San Antonio, but a Radio show we listen to constantly raves it. Thus, when we saw them on our moving road trip, we decided to stop at one for gas and lunch. They have a wide variety of food like burgers, wraps, chicken, salads and the like, but of course, they also have pizza and you know that is what I got. The ordering process was a little weird - you order at a kiosk and then your order shows up at the window. There also is a register, but that is for buying other stuff in the g...(more)

For our second pizza stop during our short DC jaunt, we found a highly rated place near the Pentagon Mall which itself was close to where we stayed. While it is a chain, it is a local/regional chain and it also had a great name so I felt we had to give it try. The place was a little small and kinda busy - our only option was a small 2 top between the door and counter, kinda jammed into a little extra space. It was ok, though. They had individual-sized pizzas and some unique twisty cheese bread things that we figure we'd give a try. The prices were surprisingly reasonable ...(more)

Back in 1997 or 1998, I got a second job working at a pizza place that was walking distance from my house in Dayton, Ohio. During my interview, the manager gave me an individual pizza and I thought it was ok at best. I worked there for a while, probably between 6 and 12 months, and each shift I got a free individual pizza. No matter how I made it, I thought it was just ok. Once I stopped working there, I did not try it again for quite a while. Then, sometime later when I finally did go back, they had changed things up to include different crusts. The hand-tossed, in parti...(more)

I cannot remember how we found this place. This review is for our final visit there before we moved away. During our three year stay in Virginia, we went to venture probably around 5 times. It is just a hole in the wall bar and grill style place with a brick oven and an old school vibe. It is in Hampton's old town and the location is great. It is a one-size pizza kind of place, but the pizzas were just about the perfect size for a single serving for me so no complaints here. Seating can be an issue because of the small size of the place, but it is worth the...(more)

I had to go to San Angelo, Texas for a 3-week training deal and while there I definitely had to try the pizza place that most people said was the best in town and that Cork & Pig. I went for lunch on a Saturday, before heading out to a movie or something and chose to sit in a booth in the bar area where I could also watch sports. It was quite busy as well, so this avoided waiting for a regular table. The place was nice inside and out, clean and shiny, and semi-fancy, especially for central Texas. The wait staff was friendly, the prices were ...(more)

Generally speaking, the wife usually just get a soda or sometimes nothing at all when we go to the movies, so I am not able to review movie theater pizza that often. From a lifetime of experience, that seems like not a bad thing - movie theater pizza has historically been not great. Though that trend has started to reverse itself lately with various chains offering some premium branded pizza that is overpriced (as are all things at theaters) but pretty good. This theater chain, Santikos, is n...(more)
Ever since a fateful day in the mid to late 80s when my dad said, "Whatever you want" and I got my first pepperoni pizza, pizza has been my favorite food. And that is exactly how I think pizza is best - pepperoni and cheese. Sure, some other toppings are fine from time to time, but for my money, I'll take extra pepperoni.
